Leading Homebuilding Association Endorses 2018 Statewide Veterans and Affordable Housing Act

Sacramento, CA – The California Building Industry Association (CBIA), the statewide voice representing thousands of member companies in the new homebuilding industry, today announced its endorsement of the $4 billion Veterans and Affordable Housing Act of 2018 that will be on the November statewide ballot.

“California needs to nearly double the number of units that are being built today, and the Veterans and Affordable Housing Act will help make a vital investment toward that goal, increasing housing affordability and availability for many Californian families,” said Dan Dunmoyer, President and CEO of CBIA. “The Act is a housing creator and an important measure on the November ballot to bring housing relief to the many Californians struggling to make ends meet due to the state’s housing crisis.”

“We are grateful for CBIA’s support of the Veterans and Affordable Housing Act and look forward to working with them to help the many people across our communities who need a roof over their heads – from California veterans returning from service to hardworking families who no matter how many hours they work can’t afford rising rents; to people with disabilities on limited incomes and individuals experiencing homelessness trying to move off the streets into safe, affordable housing,” said Ray Pearl, executive director of the California Housing Consortium and co-chair of the campaign to pass the November measure.

Governor Brown and California’s Legislature put the Veterans and Affordable Housing Act of 2018 on the November 2018 ballot as part of a multi-pronged strategy to address the crisis faced by one in three California families who can’t afford their rents. In the last 10 years, housing costs skyrocketed, demand for affordable housing surged, and homelessness rates swelled. California voters are ready to take action, with more than 60% of likely voters already supportive of the measure to help build affordable housing for veterans, working families, people with disabilities, Californians experiencing homelessness and others struggling to find a safe place to call home.
