Sacramento, CA – Kaiser Permanente, one of America’s leading integrated health care providers, has endorsed the $4 billion Veterans and Affordable Housing Act of 2018 that will be on the November statewide ballot.
“Kaiser Permanente strongly supports the Veterans and Affordable Housing Act because homelessness and health are interconnected,” said Dr. Bechara Choucair, chief community health officer at Kaiser Permanente. “All of us must do our part to help solve the growing affordable housing and homelessness crisis affecting neighborhoods and quality of life in California.”
“Having a safe, stable home is the foundation of being able to lead a healthy life. We are grateful for Kaiser Permanente’s support of the Veterans and Affordable Housing Act and know their partnership is central to helping California veterans, children and families, people with disabilities and individuals experiencing homelessness find homes, be healthy and live in vibrant communities,” said Lisa Hershey Executive Director of Housing California and a co-chair of the campaign to pass the November measure.
Governor Brown and California’s Legislature put the Veterans and Affordable Housing Act of 2018 on the November 2018 ballot as part of a multi-pronged strategy to address the crisis faced by one in three California families who can’t afford their rents. In the last 10 years, housing costs skyrocketed, demand for affordable housing surged, and homelessness rates swelled. California voters are ready to take action, with more than 60% of likely voters already supportive of the measure to help build affordable housing for veterans, working families, people with disabilities, Californians experiencing homelessness and others struggling to find a safe place to call home.
