Sacramento, CA – The campaign to pass the $4 billion Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2018 announced today that the measure has been endorsed by the League of California Cities, the leading advocate for the common interests of California's cities.
"Creating more affordable housing will help people live closer to where they work and where their children attend schools, rather than making crushing commutes and working far from their families," said Lisa Hershey, Executive Director of Housing California and a co-chair of the Veterans and Affordable Housing Act campaign working to pass the bond. "We are grateful for the support of the League of California Cities and their partnership in educating voters on how this bond can help address the devastating consequences of homelessness that are being felt across California cities."
Governor Brown and California’s legislature put the Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2018 on the November 2018 ballot as part of a multi-pronged strategy to address the crisis faced by one in three California families who can’t afford their rents. In the last 10 years, housing costs skyrocketed, demand for affordable housing surged, and homelessness rates swelled. California voters are ready to take action, with more than 60% of likely voters already supportive of a housing bond.
